America, Extremes Are Killing Us.

Polarizing extremism is hurting our country along with those complacent enough to let the extremes divide us.  Before you nod your head in agreement and think “You’re right those (insert party you oppose) are nuts these days…”, think about your own views.  Are they rooted in reason and understanding, are they your agenda or someone else’s?  Are they stances you have thought through or stances that have been passed down to you from preceding generations?  Most of us could benefit from a step back to get some perspective on what is dividing us.

That means you who assumes every black man shot by police is not complying.
That means you who assumes every cop who's had to use his gun was wrong.

That means you who thinks every person proudly waving our country’s flag is a redneck.
That means you who thinks every man in a turban is a terrorist.

That means you who thinks abortion should have no regulations or restrictions.
That means you who thinks guns should have no regulations or restrictions.

That means you who thinks gays don’t deserve the same rights as heterosexuals.
That means you who thinks people aren’t allowed to say they personally disagree with homosexuality.

That means you who thinks #alllivesmatter is racist.
That means you who thinks #blacklivesmatter is racist.

That means you who thinks every Democrat wants to take your guns.
That means you who thinks every Republican wants to control your uterus.

That means you who thinks our government should enforce your religious beliefs.
That means you who thinks every religion but Christianity should be afforded protected speech and practice.

That means you who won’t agree that some on food stamps are lazy.
That means you who thinks everyone on food stamps is lazy.

That means you who thinks all cops are corrupt.
That means you who thinks all cops are standup citizens.

That means you who thinks all Hispanics are illegals.
That means you who disregards some Hispanics are illegals.

That means you who thinks all social programs are a waste.
That means you who won’t admit social programs are being abused.

That means you who thinks all rape victims are liars looking for a payout.
That means you who thinks all rape suspects are automatically guilty.

That means you who thinks all whites are racists.
That means you who won’t admit some whites are racists.

That means you who fights for transgender rights, gay rights, and black rights but won't fight for the rights of those with disabilities.
That means you who thinks a sign on a bathroom door is going to destroy our country or violate your religion.

We must start using REASON.  We must start having EMPATHY.  We must call for JUSTICE AND RESPECT FOR ALL and admit our system is flawed.  We must LESSEN THE RAGE.  We must INCREASE THE UNDERSTANDING.  We must admit we are divided.  We must attempt to rise above it.

  1. And yet you vote republican, and it ends up potentially destroying your life.

I feel bad for your kid (he had no choice in any of this) but you deserve every bit of misery that's headed your way.

You were just fine with inflicting misery on others.

And you know what? You still are.

You will continue to vote republican, and you will continue to suffer the consequences.

    1. So I shut down comments on the other post because I don't have time to respond to every angry liberal in the world. I have voted for a Republican twice in my life and it was at the state level. Did it ever occur to any of you that the post you are referring to is written for a specific demographic and rather than jumping all over it you could see it as an opportunity to bring the insane number of people in the disability community still voting red into the fold? I guess not. I'm pretty sure this post has done more for your cause and has reached more on the other side of the aisle than any amount of jumping up and down and screaming you have been doing for the last four years. I am very socially liberal and very empathetic. But there are a number of people who may not be and they need to see that their vote does affect THEM even if they don't care about anyone else. And I have to say, the people coming across like you are right now, I'm not feeling much empathy, or kindness, or really anything I would respect in a person. And I am kind of wondering if you read the article, because I make it clear I haven't voted for a Republican in years.

  3. "The AHCA now goes to the Senate and I hope against hope that I am pleasantly surprised and enough Republican Senators will stand up for my kid and vote NO. But, sadly, I have lost hope that the Right cares about my kid at all."

And even after your bluster in the May 5th post, it really only comes back to impacting you and your individual situation. It doesn't matter if the GOP doesn't care about "those" kids at all. As long as you get yours, fuck everyone else.

And, as such, pardon me if I don't believe your bullshit. At all. You'll be back voting for the next republican that promises to be better "this time." Besides abortion and emails and gays and states rights and MILITARY FAMILIES and such. As long as the next R pinkie promises to address your individual situation, you'll be right back voting R because as has always been the case, it's only about you. It's not about a larger societal issue that the party you've always voted for consistently wants to fuck over "those people." You don't give a shit about the fact that the GOP you've always voted for has tried fucking over anyone that needs any help whatsoever. Well, not until it impacts you that is! Then? Then, it's OMG THE GOP DON'T CARE Y'ALL! It's not about your community. It's not about being able to actually empathize with others situations. It's not about how your votes might impact others. It' only about you. And you vote for the person that promises to help you and you alone.

Maybe if you, and the millions of other selfish pricks that think like this, actually thought that governing was more than only about you, we wouldn't be where we are today. With a GOP that doesn't care about anything other than making themselves and the wealthiest americans ever so slightly more wealthy. Maybe if you thought about that BEFORE it impacted you, you wouldn't be forced to pray that the scum of the GOP in the Senate won't fuck you and 25+ Million others. Maybe if you'd been able to get outraged before it impacted you, we'd be better off as a whole. Maybe if you were capable of actual empathy instead of only typing the words in this post, you'd have considered the impact your votes have on others.

Your votes and support of the GOP has fucked over people FOR YEARS. And, it didn't bother you in the least. It fucked over parents of kids with disabilities other than your son and his autism, and you didn't give a fuck. Because you got yours. And, even today, after your grandstanding little blog post, I don't see your worldview changed. It still reads completely as the writings of a self absorbed narcissist that can only spare compassion and outrage about the GOP policies of cruelty when you believe they don't care about YOUR child.

    Not "all children with disabilities"
Not "all people that have medical issues".
Not "all people that are struggling with the costs of medical coverage"
Not "25+ million people, many of which are children or elderly, getting their healthcare ripped away"

It still doesn't matter that anyone else gets fucked over. It doesn't matter that the GOP doesn't care about my kids. Or your neighbors kids. Or "those people's" kids.

"I have lost hope that the Right cares about MY KID at all."

Writing "EMPATHY" in all caps doesn't mean anything.

I want to tell you a story...

I want to tell you all a story. It’s about a mom who had two babies 12 months apart. And the second baby was different. He was sad or mad...
